Letters They Wrote
The Distance Between Ink
Letters They Wrote: The Distance Between Ink is a true story... ours. Two women, one in Texas and one in Florida, began writing letters and never stopped. What started as words on a page became something deeper: a friendship forged in ink, steady and soul-deep, without ever meeting face to face. These are the real letters. Nothing changed but the names. What unfolds is spiritual, philosophical, funny, honest, poetic, raw, and sometimes heartbreaking. It’s not tidy. It’s not edited for effect. It’s what happens when two people decide to tell the truth and keep going. What we found in these pages surprised even us, and we hope you find something in them too.

Where It All Began...

where it led...

"I will hear your trauma, take your trauma, feel your trauma, pray on your trauma and send the new energy back to you."

About the Authors
Rowan Layne Thorne
Rowan writes like a spell unraveling in real time. She’s a mother of four, a poetic soul-channel, and a spiritual rebel whose work sits somewhere between grief and glitch, ritual and reality, sacredness and screaming into the void.Letters They Wrote is her first book to be published, an unedited collection of real letters between two strangers who became something much more. Across pages soaked in vulnerability, humor, and reverent profanity, Rowan’s voice is steady, strange, and deeply honest.Though this marks her publishing debut, Rowan has two completed solo manuscripts under her belt and many more in the works. Her writing blends memoir, mysticism, and emotional survival, built from real life, altered states, and whatever magic she can find in the mess.

Melanie Layne Monroe
Melanie Layne Monroe is a Texas-born writer, photographer, and seeker based in Texas. She is a mental health advocate who believes in the sacredness of everyday life & in the quiet power of vulnerability.. She finds meaning in handwritten letters, long conversations, deep healing, and spiritual connection. Guided by grace, and curiosity she writes from the messy middle—the space where pain and growth coexist. Letters They Wrote is her debut work, and it began the way most beautiful things do: with an open heart and a single yes-- raw, unfiltered, and brave in all the right ways.

We didn’t write this for readers.
We wrote it because we were unraveling, and letters were the only thread we could hold onto. But here you are, and if something in these pages stirred something in you… we’re listening.Whether it’s a whisper, a story, a scream, or a stamped envelope, we’d be honored to receive your words.

✒️Ink & Inquiry
The questions between the letters.
Are the letters in this book real?
Yes. Every letter in this book is real and unedited. We sent them through the mail just like the old days. Most of our letters were typed, but they were written with full intention, spirit, and truth; and they were always delivered in ink.Did you two ever meet in person?
Not yet. Our friendship began with letters, grew through video and phone calls, and still returns to paper. We’ve never met face to face, but we will. Why did you decide to share your letters?
Because we both had stories to tell, and we had each other to listen. We asked the kind of questions most people are too scared to say out loud. And we found that between us, we held the answers. This book became a way to help others feel seen. To show that real connection can still happen... through ink, honesty, and long-distance trust. And maybe to prove that platonic, soul-deep, romantic intimacy isn’t just real; it’s worth writing down. What is this book about?
It’s about grief. And writing. And faith. And estrangement.
It’s about mothering and not-mothering, trauma and healing, mental health, addiction, spirituality, queerness, creative sparks, identity, dissociation, tarot, weird dreams, loyalty, and the mess of being human. But mostly?
It’s about two people deciding not to look away from each other.
And what bloomed in the space between. Can I write to you?
Yes.
Ink your heart and send it. The mailbox is open.

💌A Letter for You
We didn’t mean to write a book, not like this. We meant to write to each other, to tell the truth to someone who wouldn’t look away.
But somewhere between the ink stains and late-night spirals, something bigger happened. And now… you’re here. Maybe wondering if you’re allowed in, too.You are. This isn’t a newsletter that yells. It’s more of a soft whisper. A check-in. Maybe a letter, maybe a ramble, maybe just a moment that finds you when it needs to.We won’t flood your inbox. We just want to stay connected, the same way this began.Join us, if you want to. When you’re ready.
